AD OS INVENTORY
A free, read-only Windows version report for Active Directory
KW Tech Solutions LLC - KingWerx(TM)
================================================================

AD OS Inventory lists the computer accounts in an Active Directory
domain, grouped by organizational unit (OU), with the Windows version
each computer last reported: operating system, release (for example
22H2 or 24H2), build number, approximate last logon, and whether the
account is enabled. Pick an OU, or the whole domain, and export what
you see to CSV or PDF.

It is READ-ONLY. It reads Active Directory and makes NO changes to
Active Directory or to any computer. It does not contact the
computers themselves.

It is FREE. There is no license key and no charge. You may share the
original, unmodified download with others - see LICENSE.txt.

WHAT'S IN THE DOWNLOAD
----------------------
  AD-OSInventory.exe the application, signed by
                              KW Tech Solutions LLC
AD-OSInventory-Manual.html the user guide - opens in any browser
  README.txt this file
LICENSE.txt the license agreement (also shown when
                              the tool starts)

There is no installer - the exe runs from wherever you copy it.

REQUIREMENTS
------------
  - A Windows machine joined to the domain, or able to reach a domain
    controller by name or address.
  - A domain account with ordinary read access to Active Directory.
    Administrator rights are not needed.
  - .NET Framework 4.8. It is built into Windows 10 (version 1903 and
later), Windows 11, and Windows Server 2022 and 2025. On Windows
Server 2016 and 2019 it may need to be installed.
  - Validation so far: version 1.1.0 was run in a test-lab domain
(Windows Server 2019 domain controller, Windows 11 client) -
connecting, listing, filtering, and PDF export. Version 1.0.0,
with the same directory-reading code, was run against a live
production Active Directory domain. Other environments have not
    been tested.

RUNNING IT
----------
  1. Copy the folder to the machine and run AD-OSInventory.exe.
  2. Read the license agreement, tick the box, and click I Accept.
Decline closes the tool without making any changes.
  3. The Domain box shows the current domain. To query another domain
or a specific domain controller, type its name or address. Tick
"Use other credentials" to sign in as a different account.
  4. Click Connect. The OUs appear on the left.
  5. Click an OU - or the top entry for the whole domain - to list its
computers. "Include sub-OUs" controls whether OUs inside it are
included. The lower table counts every computer in the OU by
     Windows version.
  6. Type in Filter to narrow the list (for example "Windows 10"). The
summary and the status line still count the whole OU.
  7. Export CSV... or Export PDF... saves the list as it is shown,
filter applied. The PDF groups computers under their OU, with a
summary by Windows version on the first page.

ABOUT THE DATA
--------------
  - The Windows version is what each computer last reported to Active
Directory about itself. A computer that has been off or away from
the network shows the version it had then. The Last Logon column
shows how old that information is.
  - Last Logon is approximate. Active Directory updates it about every
9 to 14 days, not at every logon.
  - Release names (22H2, 24H2 and so on) come from the build number. A
build that is not in the tool's list shows its number with the
    release left blank.

WHAT IT WRITES
--------------
Only two things:

  - The CSV and PDF files you choose to save.
  - A session log, written automatically. Every status line is
    appended, as it happens, to

      %ProgramData%\KWTechSolutions\ADOSInventory\logs\session-<stamp>.log

headed with the version, the machine and the user who ran it. It
is written line by line, so the record survives closing the tool
or a crash. The file stays on that machine; nothing is transmitted
anywhere. When "Use other credentials" is used, the user name is
recorded; the password is not saved or written anywhere.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
---------------------
You are responsible for maintaining a current, tested FULL SYSTEM
BACKUP of every domain controller in your environment. This software
reads and reports; it does not create, verify, or substitute for a
backup. A CSV or PDF it writes is not a backup.

AD OS Inventory is read-only and its reports are advisory; it is
provided AS-IS, without warranty of any kind, and KW Tech Solutions LLC
is not liable for data loss, service disruption, or any decision or
action taken on the basis of its reports. See LICENSE.txt for the full
terms.
