AD OS INVENTORY
A free, read-only Windows version report for Active Directory — every computer, grouped by OU, exported to CSV or PDF
- Signed Windows executable — no installer
- Full user manual (HTML)
- No administrator rights needed
- Free to share, unmodified
Planning upgrades, a hardware refresh, or an audit starts with one question: what is every computer actually running? AD OS Inventory reads the computer accounts in Active Directory and lists each one, by OU, with the Windows version it last reported — operating system, release, build, approximate last logon, and whether the account is enabled. It reads only: nothing in Active Directory or on any computer is changed.
READ-ONLY BY DESIGN
Ordinary directory queries only — it writes nothing to Active Directory and does not contact the computers. It runs as a normal domain user, with no UAC prompt.
EVERY COMPUTER, BY OU
Browse the domain’s OUs as a tree. Pick one — with or without the OUs inside it — or the whole domain, and filter by name, version, or OU as you type.
RELEASE NAMES, NOT JUST BUILDS
Build numbers become release names — 22H2, 23H2, 24H2 — with a summary that counts computers per Windows version. Disabled accounts and computers not seen in 90+ days are counted too.
CSV AND PDF EXPORT
Export exactly what you see: a CSV for Excel, or a PDF report grouped by OU with totals and page numbers — written by the tool itself, no PDF printer needed.
REQUIREMENTS
- A Windows machine joined to the domain — or one that can reach a domain controller, signing in with other credentials
- An ordinary domain account; administrator rights are not needed
- .NET Framework 4.8 — built into Windows 10 (1903 and later), Windows 11, and Windows Server 2022 and 2025; on Server 2016 and 2019 it may need to be installed
- Validation: version 1.1.0 was run in a test-lab domain (Windows Server 2019 domain controller, Windows 11 client) — connecting, listing, filtering, and PDF export. Version 1.0.0, with the same directory-reading code, was run against a live production Active Directory domain. Other environments have not been tested
READ-ONLY
- Makes no changes to Active Directory or to any computer — it only reads and reports
- The version shown is what each computer last reported to Active Directory; a computer that has been off or away from the network shows the version it had then
- Last logon is approximate: Active Directory updates it about every 9–14 days
- You are responsible for maintaining a current, tested FULL SYSTEM BACKUP of every domain controller in your environment. This software reads and reports — it does not create, verify, or substitute for one
- Every session is logged automatically to
%ProgramData%\KWTechSolutions\ADOSInventory\logs, written line by line as it happens. It stays on that machine; nothing is transmitted anywhere - Free to use and to share — the original, unmodified download only
- Support covers this program only — not Active Directory, your domain controllers, or acting on its reports
- EULA shown on launch, with a tick-box you must check before Accept works
